A new bloom with Yashicaforum?

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

At the moment I can’t afford to buy new cameras, not even used old things. So I settle for the Yashica gear I have and enjoy reading post from the 165(!) members of the Yashica discussionforum. My time spent here has been a bit sparse lately, beacuse of need to look for work. Therefore I will try to get some moderators of the forum and some updates, and then concentrate my own forumpost on the artistic bit of photography that I think also should be apart of a good photography forum even if it is technique oriented.

So lets get a new bloom to the forum! ;) This image was taken with Yashica ML 35mm/2.8

Putting up fences on the forum

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

We had a spamattack today. My first measures was to delete the user and posts, but he returned… so now I made some more changes.

  • Banned user and email of course, and deleted posts
  • I blocked a big range of ip-addresses (which seem to be connected with phishing and other crap).
  • I changed the registration at YashicaForum.com so now you need to confirm your mail when registering
  • New passwords need to have both numbers and letters.

Defensiv changes

None of these will totally stop this kind of shit, but the main idea is to make it not worth while the effort. I’m going to look in to phpBB3s extensions if there are any spamprotection like Bad Behavior or Akismet. If these keeps on going there are more settings to use in phpBB3, but they moght be inconvinient for the real users so I rather not… like admin approval when registering, first 3 post needs approval and so on.

Maybe I should also get some moderators.

If anyone have more ideas, let me know.

Yashicaforums phpBB upgraded to 3.0.4

Monday, January 12th, 2009

I just finished upgrading the forum to the 3.0.4 version. If any on notices bugs let me know. I have been thinking of adding more plugins/mods. It would be great to have a Flickr-list with the news from YashicaForums flickr-group.

2008 brought just over 1000 posts on YashicaForum, and a nice Yashica ML 50mm/1.4 to me. That’s got to be a good start :) I have 2009 can be a good year for YashicaForum. Happy new year!

Peak in statistics – link from stumbleupon?

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

We got a big peak in statistics earlier this weak, I think it was a link from stumbleupon. That show you how important social web has become, in this case a difference between 100 och 300 visitors a day. It’s a bit sad to see it level down again though.

The use of a Yashica forum

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Why would one start a discussionboard on Yashica cameras? Well, I noticed there was a forum for pentax so why not Yashica? There were certainly many using them and showing their picture on for example Flickr.

And I’m glad I started it. We soon grew to over 60 users and 800 posts. I’ve learned a lot, from news about models (I thought all Yashinon lenses were M42-mount, but no) to information on how to disassamble a Electro or Lynx. I know what to look for when I buy a rangefinder now. I know what to do with a TLR and lightmeter. I’ve also seen some nice photos from our members.

It has been a period of inspiration and creation. But now I’m a bit stuck and need some input. Where do we go from here?
